Western Nevada College offers associate degrees in applied science, arts, business, general studies and science and a bachelor's of applied science degree in construction management, and boasts a student enrollment of close to 4,300 students at a modern and attractive campus on the northwest side of town adjacent to the foothills of the Carson Range.

Sporting events can serve to bring the community together, and the athletics programs of Carson City schools include the sports teams of the Carson High School Senators and the Western Nevada Wildcats. Carson High School is in the Northern Division Class 4A of the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association, while WNC competes in the level of Division I of the National Junior College Athletic Association.
