The Capital City Arts Initiative is an artist-centered organization that operates three galleries through volunteers at civic locations in Carson City. The Courthouse Gallery is in the Carson City Courthouse on East Musser Street. Other exhibitions take place in the Carson City Community Center's Sierra Room on E. William Street, where all city boards and commissions hold their public meetings, and in Carson City's Community Development building, a.k.a. the "Brick," on E. Proctor Street in downtown Carson City. The Courthouse Gallery has three major exhibitions per year by local, regional or national artists and change every four months. The Sierra Room has exhibitions with art by northern Nevada artists. There are five student exhibits per year in the Community Development Building. Two of the shows feature high school art students from Carson High, Douglas High, Dayton High and Pioneer High. The other three shows display the art work of college students from Sierra Nevada College, Western Nevada College and the University of Nevada-Reno. Founded in 2002, CCAI also works to serve the community's diverse adult and youth populations through art projects and exhibitions, live events, arts education programs, artist residencies and online projects.
