Everything Nevada, 10 Types of Dads and What to do with Them on Father’s Day

We love our father-figures. And we want to appreciate them every day, but especially on Father’s Day. And this year, a generic Google search of what to do with dad on his big day just won’t cut it because there are a variety of dads out there! So we’ve broken it down for you. We know dad doesn’t fit in a box but he certainly might be one of these types.

The Adventurous Dad:

He no doubt coached your childhood sports. He probably loves mountain biking. He’s likely happy just going to the local park and throw a ball around. So, do any of these things with him to hit Father’s Day in Reno out of the park. Ha.

  • Aceball. There are Aces games the next few days.

  • Take him camping! Here is some inspo on super cool places near Reno.

  • Use the Lime Bikes around Reno/Sparks. Maybe not up the Virginia Street Bridge though.

  • Whitney Peak rock wall. We recommend challenging him to a race. Just sayin’.

The Boujee Dad:

It’s fun when he’s paying for you, but it might hurt your bank account when you’re paying for him. Still, he’s your dad and he’s worth it. But seriously, hopefully, you started saving a while ago.

  • Dad’s Brunch at Fin & Filet. They have a mouth-watering menu special just for Father's Day!

  • A nice round of golf. You can join or give him the gift of alone time. He's your dad, you know which he'd prefer.

  • A pilates class! Club Pilates has specials running for Men's Health Month!

  • Stroll around the Nevada Museum of Art. Be sure to check out the Trevor Paglen Orbital Reflector.

The Beer & BBQ Fanatic Dad:

He’s easy because he just wants to eat and drink (we can relate). And if you’re anything like your dad, you want to do the same.

The Really Chill Dad:

He’s simple. He’s quiet. He’s pretty easy to please. He probably wants to stay home and relax for his day. For this type of dad, you can:

The Dad Joke Dad:

He’s fun and he’s probably a little on the wild side. Since he thinks he’s so funny, you should take him to see some real comedy, but if that's not going to cut it, there are more silly choices.

  • Reno Tahoe Comedy will put his jokes to shame.

  • Design a funny Big Frog Custom T-Shirt! Hint: Put your face on it and make him wear it the whole day.

  • Challenge him to a Frogger battle at Press Start. Guaranteed to bring out his inner child, which he obviously wants.

The Burning Man Dad:

He’s basically too cool for school so you have no choice other than to bring him to local Reno shops and buy him a sweet getup for his burn.

Not Your Biological Dad:

The person who stepped up, and filled in. Maybe it’s your mom, brother, mentor, uncle, family friend or grandpa. Whoever they are and for whatever reason, they deserve some love on this day too.

  • Delicious brunch at Creme Cafe! We suggest the Cinnamon Roll French Toast.

  • Take them shopping for unique gifts at Natural Selection!

  • A day at the lake! Pack a picnic and chairs and enjoy some quality time.

  • Escape Room: Grab some other people or go just the two of you and test your relationship with an escape game!

The Hipster Dude. I mean Dad:

He wants to be brought to the local coffee shops and craft breweries. You know he does. Take him to any of these places to make his hipster dreams come true!

  • Don't ask him what he wants to do, just take him to Pianissimo Coffee and More

  • He will be obsessed with the chicken and waffles (they're gluten-free) at Battle Born Social. Be sure to snap a picture with the "Eat. Drink. Be Social" sign!

  • Take him on a walking tour of all the art in Downtown and Midtown Reno.

  • The Depot for a Manmosa or a craft beer.

The Sentimental Father:

He would never throw away the macaroni necklace you made him and chances are he’d let you paint his nails if you begged. He cried harder than you when you moved away for the first time and you'll always be his biggest accomplishment. Quality time is enough for him, but this Father's Day do something extra special for him.

  • Head to Create and design a memorable gift for him, or bring him with you to make a special memory together.

  • Walk around the Reno Riverwalk District and let him decide what to do from there.

  • Volunteer together. There's no better gift than helping others together.

  • Recreate a family photo from long ago and frame it for him. Macaroni optional.

The Dog Dad:

This day is just as important for all the dog dads! Maybe he’s your significant other and so far you’re only ready to handle furbabies, that's okay. He needs love too.

  • Bring him and the non-human child to The Eddy.

  • At Rancho San Rafael Dog Park, humans and canines alike can burn energy together. Making for an extra cuddly night.

  • Grab lunch with a view (a view not as cute as your pet, obviously) at Wild River Grille.

Whatever you end up doing, doing it together is the most important thing. Happy Father's Day!
