Frances Humphrey Lecture: Reno-Tahoe Olympics History
Join local authors and historians David and Gayle Woodruff as they present this month's Frances Humphrey Lecture, "Going for the Gold: Lake Tahoe-Reno's Olympic Heritage."
According to the Woodruffs, Reno boosters first conceptualized the idea of a Winter Olympiad in Western Nevada. But Alex Cushing and the State of California brought the 1960 Winter Olympics to the Lake Tahoe area. And Walt Disney brought the Olympics to the world.
From hosting the first Olympics that truly utilized modern technology to creating a world-class Olympic training facility deep in the Sierra Nevada Forest, the Lake Tahoe and Western Nevada region have played an important role in America’s success in both the Summer and Winter Olympics for generations.
This lecture will be presented in person and via Zoom Meeting.
