The Bob McFadden Plaza represents the new feel and atmosphere of downtown Carson City. It is the first stage in a rejuvenation project that brings a more relaxed ambience to the area. An open-air stage allows the plaza to serve as the focal point for events (such as the Carson City Ghost Walk), and activities and a splash pad make for a fun afternoon for the kids during a hot, high-desert summer day. Shops and restaurants in the plaza area capture the spirit of friendly Western hospitality. McFadden Plaza businesses include Scoups Ice Cream and Soup Bar for just the right comfort-food snack or meal, whether it's a lazy summer afternoon, a brisk and nippy winter day or anything in between. If a more substantial meal is called for, Mom & Pop's Diner is located here for breakfast or lunch, a classic family diner with a tropical paradise twist. On the upscale end of things, McFadden Plaza also features Bella Fiore Wines with gourmet appetizers and lunch entrees along with an unbelievable wine selection, perfect for a relaxing afternoon of tasting for anyone ranging from wine amateur to expert. The Fox Brewpub is one of those classy-yet-casual brewpub restaurants where families can have a nice dinner out or friends can meet for an after-work gathering.
Naming of McFadden Plaza
McFadden Plaza is named for Bob McFadden, a community advocate who passed away in the early 2000s. An active member and promoter of the Carson City downtown, he was responsible for restoring the old St. Charles Hotel located adjacent to the plaza that now bears his name. The McFadden Plaza project is the first step in the district's revitalization and a fitting tribute to a community member who worked to help make it possible.
