Flannel and Frost Dinner Fundraiser
"Flannel and Frost" is the theme of the fundraiser at Carson City Elks Lodge, where people are encouraged to "forget the cocktail dresses and cuff links" and instead "don your best flannel apparel." The night includes music and karaoke, raffle prizes and more.
Proceeds benefit Night off the Street, also known as NOTS, warming center, which runs seven days a week, November through the end of March, with doors open at five Carson City churches. This year, the warming centers have been averaging around 30 homeless a night, said Jodi Miller, NOTS Center Manager. Volunteers help run the center nightly. Go here to learn about volunteering.
Since forming in 2017 by Deacon Craig LaGier, no one has died of exposure on the streets during winter. NOTS was established when, in 2016, four people froze to death on the streets of Carson City. In response to the tragedy, several Carson City churches banded together to form a solution: that none may die for simply being without a home. Go here to learn more about the program.
