Music Competition for Carson City High School Students
The Rotary Club of Carson City is hosting a music competition for Carson City high school students in 9th to 12th grades grades and teens aged 14 to 18 for home schooled or non-traditionally schooled students. All instruments are welcome. Cash prizes are awarded to the first, second, third and fourth place winners. First place winners receive $100 and advance to the Area Contest, and then potentially to the District Contest. The prize money increases at each level.
The club has demonstrated its commitment to music education by helping develop the Carson School District Orchestras, Symphony Youth Strings and the Carson High School and Carson Middle School jazz bands and marching bands.
“We host the music contest to inspire young talent, foster creativity, and provide a platform for emerging artists to share their passion while strengthening community bonds through the universal language of music,” says Rotarian Michael Pelham.
Pelham explains that the annual competition is another example of that commitment. “Music education is not just about learning notes on a page; it’s about nurturing creativity, discipline, and emotional expression, say Rotarian Michael Pelham. “It empowers students to think critically, collaborate, and connect with the world in ways words alone cannot.”
