Inaugural U.S. Flag Retirement Ceremony
Join the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) for our inaugural U.S. Flag Retirement Ceremony, a formal retirement ceremony to honor and commemorate the adoption of the America flag which occurred on this day in 1777 by the Second Continental Congress.
The United States Flag Code establishes advisory rules for the display and care of the flag of the United States. Included in these rules is guidance regarding the proper disposal of U.S. flags, which are unfit for display. The preferred method for disposal (known as retirement) is burning.
The Carson City Fire Department (CCFD), in concert with the Carson City Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), identified a need for a durable and easily accessible box where community members could dispose of their worn or tattered U.S. flags to ensure that the flags would be disposed of in a respectful manner.
Working with members of our community, a box has been obtained and placed in front of the Carson City Fire Department headquarters, located at 777 S Stewart St, Carson City NV. U.S. flags can be placed in the box for disposal at any time.
