Carson City Events, Historic Washington Elm Rededication Ceremony
Event Description:

The Nevada State Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), in partnership with the Battle Born and Nevada Sagebrush Chapters, and America250 Nevada, hosts a rededication ceremony for the historic Washington Elm on the Capitol grounds in Carson City. This will be a rededication of the last living grandchild of the Cambridge, Mass., elm tree George Washington reportedly stood under when assuming command of the Continental Army 250 years ago. This celebration will recreate the original 1932 dedication ceremony by the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Representatives from the Nevada State Legislature will be in attendance along with Carson City Mayor Lori Bagwell, Sons and Daughters of the American Revolution, potentially (not yet confirmed) representatives from Governor Joe Lombardo’s office, school children from the Mark Twain Elementary School Choir.

Parking is recommended in the Blasdel Building parking lot across Musser Street from the Blasdel Building. Power is not available on site.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: The ceremony marks a significant moment in both state and national history as Nevada joins in the nationwide America 250 celebration, honoring the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The event, hosted on Arbor Day, also commemorates Carson City's 31st year as a designated Tree City USA.
