Come Together — Group Events Downtown!

By Bryan Akerley | Wednesday, March 1, 2017

It feels like this year is already flying by! March is upon us, and with it comes warmer weather (mixed with some rainfall, of course), St. Patrick’s Day and the beginning of springtime in Carson City. I’ve always said nothing beats fall in this town, but then spring rolls around with blossoming flowers on Capitol Grounds and the warm rays of sunshine after a long cold winter, and I start second guessing myself.

Now, before I start practicing for summer out on a patio with a drink, I’ve got this weekend all planned out. The theme is coming together here in Carson City — events for you to round up a group of friends to see a show or participate in community activities. You might even make some new friends this weekend! Come together and celebrate the increasing temperatures, a new month or nothing in particular. You’re guaranteed to have a blast.

Hashtag LMFAO

One of my favorite TV shows growing up was Who’s Line Is It Anyway?, the show where a group of comedians acted out improvisational sketches on stage to laugh-out-loud results. The jokes aren’t planned, the stakes are higher and that’s improv comedy. This Friday night, you’re in for a real treat as the BAC comedians are on their toes during a night of improv starting at 7 p.m.

Tickets are free, there’s a cash bar with alcoholic and non-alcoholic refreshments and the show is all ages, but expect some PG-13 humor. The BAC has been putting these monthly shows on for a while now, so they’re no strangers to the craft. Excitement’s at a high, and no matter what happens you and everyone else will have a hilarious, unforgettable experience together.

Monthly Wine Walk (or stumble)

It’s the first Saturday of the month, and you know what that means! One of the great monthly events of Downtown Carson City, as I’ve mentioned before, is the wine walk.

The weather’s looking great for Saturday afternoon. Take advantage of the increasing temperatures and stroll through the downtown area’s many participating businesses. There are the galleries like Artsy Fartsy and Charlie B Gallery; Nevada-proud gift shops like Rocking & Rolling, the Purple Avocado and Touched By Angels; then there are the restaurants and bars like Bella Fiore and Comma Coffee.

From 1 to 5 p.m. you’ll get countless chances to see the extraordinary work of local artists and craftspeople, have a snack (or even lunch) at Downtown Carson City’s premiere restaurants and listen to live music at a few of the stops, such as the Brewery Arts Center’s Artisan Store. Plus, there’s the opportunity to bask in the early March air — just a taste of springtime you’ll get to share with friends as you wander through the historic streets, greeting many Northern Nevada locals as you go.

A $15 entrance fee gets you a commemorative wine glass (available at the Carson Nugget, Cactus Jack’s, Carson Jewelry & Loan, Remedy’s Bar, Touched By Angels, Comma Coffee or the BAC) as well as a raffle ticket. Vote your favorite wine stop and get entered to win the raffle. It’s the perfect way to spend the afternoon.

Keep the party going after the wine walk and head over to Living The Good Life for cocktails and dinner as you listen to some live music on stage. Cheers to a successful wine walk and many more to come as you enjoy a sirloin steak or chicken and pasta! Then get up and dance.

Yo yogis, wanna pose?

The warmer weather has passed, the clouds have rolled in, the sky is starting to trickle rain down on Carson City and you’re wiped out from partying the day away on Saturday. It’s Sunday morning, and the new week is upon you.

As Northern Nevada locals know, the weather is fickle and bound to change on a day’s notice. But if you were out enjoying the sun on Saturday, don’t let a little rain get you down on Sunday. You need a place to clear your head and ready your mind and body for the new week.

From 9 to 10 a.m. on Sunday, there’s a community yoga class at Comma Coffee. The floor is cleared out, and instructor Allison Reitz leads everyone together on a meditative yet fun yoga journey. Whether you’re a beginner or an expert yogi yourself, you’ll get the chance to clear your mind and relax and stretch your body in an excellent and wholesome end to a busy and inclusive weekend. Finish the morning with a complimentary cup of coffee in great company. Sign up at communityyogi.com and choose your entry price for the event.

Take one, two or all of these steps together to ensure an amazing weekend with friends and the Carson City community together. You’ll leave refreshed and with enough great memories to last until, well, at least next month’s wine walk and improv show! Plus, the experience of sharing this beautiful late winter/early spring time in Carson City with friends and locals who love it as much as you will — well, it’s priceless.

In the meantime, be sure to see what other events are happening in this neck of the woods this week in Daytime, Nightlife and the Community.‘Til next week!
